By this point, if you’re an Arsenal fan and you don’t know your club have been linked to Thomas Partey, you really need to reevaluate your sources of information.

For the past few months, Mikel Arteta’s side have constantly been placed next to the Ghana international’s name in Spain, as the player keeps his options open going forward.

Currently tied to a €50m release clause at Atlético Madrid, the defensive midfielder has yet to agree to that figure being increased by signing a new deal, leading to uncertainty about his future.

Among the various interested parties are said to be Arsenal, who are now reportedly ‘the best placed’ to acquire his services.

That’s according to COPE in Spain via their journalist Antonio Ruiz on the show Tiempo de Juego on Sunday afternoon.

The reporter claims there is a ‘large portion’ of people within Atlético Madrid who have ‘given up’ on Partey staying, adding his next destination would be the Premier League, as Arsenal ‘appear to be the best placed team’ to sign him.

Getting him isn’t exactly rocket science, as it’s a simple matter of paying €50m, but this suggests the Gunners might have already reached some sort of agreement with the player, or are closer to doing so than the competition.

We’ll have to wait and see, but after a brief spell of Manchester United being in the lead, it’s Arsenal who appear to be back on top.
