Napoli’s Eljif Elmas has ended up in the sights of Liverpool, according to a claim from Turkey.

The 23-year-old joined the Serie A side from Fenerbahçe in 2019 and started to have a prominent role after Luciano Spalletti arrived at the club in 2021.

Elmas managed seven goals and six assists last season, while operating in the middle of the pitch as well as in attacking positions.

This season, he has three goals and an assist from 20 matches. The versatile player’s displays seem to have caught Jürgen Klopp’s attention.

That’s according to Turkish journalist Ahmet Ercanlar, who took to Twitter to explain the Reds manager has ‘called’ the North Macedonia international. Ercanlar adds Klopp ‘wanted to see’ him at the Merseyside club.

If Elmas were to join Liverpool, his former club, Fenerbahçe, will receive part of the fee from his sale.

Klopp and Liverpool may be pleased to know Elmas has already suggested he could leave Napoli.

“I don’t know what I’ll be when my career is over. I can’t imagine it yet, I’m quite young. I would like to take Macedonia to an important competition like the Euros or the World Cup,” he told De Marke Sports, quoted by Il Mattino.

“And I would also like to win with clubs, leagues and the Champions League. After Napoli, I hope to be able to play for other big European clubs.”
