Liverpool’s offer for Braga defender David Carmo continues generating a lot of comments in the Portuguese press, since this would have been the country’s biggest deal of the transfer window.
The details of the transfer attempt were revealed yesterday by a couple of outlets, who claimed the Reds wanted the player on a loan deal for which they’d pay €4m, plus a buying option of €20m.
Portuguese TV show Mais Transferências had some comments from journalist Rui Pedro Braz last night, and he believes that the Premier League giants wouldn’t have given up on the permanent deal.
The pundit said: “Does anyone believe that a club like Liverpool would spend €4m for a four-month loan if not willing to buy the player? No one believes.”
That’s why he claims Braga president Antonio Salvador was quite brave to turn down such an offer. The Portuguese side wouldn’t have had enough time to find a proper replacement, and they also think Carmo will be worth more in the summer.
Before talking about Liverpool’s offer, Mais Transferências had been reporting that Salvador’s house had been vandalised by fans who didn’t like Paulinho’s move to Sporting. Rui Pedro Braz says that if he had sold Carmo to Liverpool, then they’d have ‘brought his house down’.
