On Wednesday there were several claims from South America saying Tottenham Hotspur are interested in Santos star Yefferson Soteldo.
Reports have been saying José Mourinho has approved Spurs’ decision to spend €18m on the winger, while other clubs such as Atalanta and Watford are in the race too.
Well, we went after this story, and it’s not reliable at all.
Everything indicates that it was first written by Brazilian outlet Bolavip. They made all those claims crediting British website Football Whispers.
The claims got bigger once TNT Sports Chile made the same report, also crediting Football Whispers. They even added information of their own, claiming Spurs were already interested in Soteldo during his time at Huachipato, when they offered US$7m for his signing.
Football Whispers only have one story about Soteldo, from a time when they were still presenting a young talent from Venezuela. That was four years ago, he wasn’t even a Santos player and José Mourinho was far from joining Tottenham.
So unless we find a reliable source writing about Tottenham and Mourinho want to take Soteldo from Santos now, we better leave this rumour aside.
