Catalan outlet Sport today features a piece explaining the growing influence that Jordi Cruyff is having at Barcelona.

The director had big importance in the club’s signings in January, with an important voice on the transfers that should or shouldn’t be completed, and that had an impact on a Tottenham Hotspur player.

The story points out that three of the club’s four January signings arrived from the Premier League. And it turns out there was also a blocked transfer that would come from England. That’s was Bryan Gil, with Barcelona seemingly keen but being blocked by their director.

Sport claims Cruyff’s opinion ‘was key’ for Barcelona to rule out a deal for the winger. It’s said the Tottenham player had been ‘one of the most real options’ in the January window, and ended up moving to another La Liga side, as he signed for Valencia on loan.

Even though it’s not said if Barça are proud of that decision or not, the Mestalla side seem pretty happy with Bryan Gil’s start at the club.

With not even a handful of appearances for them, there are already local reports claiming Valencia should try to extend his deal and keep the 21-year-old on loan from Tottenham for another season.
