As the big betting investigations in Italy continue, it’s now time for Aston Villa star Nicolo Zaniolo to speak to the local authorities.

According to Corriere Dello Sport’s freshest news, the midfielder has now been ‘summoned to appear’ by the Prosecutor’s Office.

The outlet says the Aston Villa player ‘will be questioned’ on Friday afternoon. There, he’ll have to talk about his connection with the illegal betting cases.

Zaniolo is being investigated for ‘illegal exercise of gaming or betting activities’, and is set to explain himself. As has been stated many times, the midfielder is expected to insist he never bet on football.

The Italian media has been going easy on the Aston Villa player, making it clear that his case is not as serious as Sandro Tonali’s.

Perhaps, and that’s just an assumption from us, the questioning could be done via a video-call. The Villans have a match against Luton Town on Sunday, and even though Italy isn’t that far away for players who use private jets, Unai Emery certainly won’t like seeing one of his players making that trip so soon before a Premier League clash.
