For the past few weeks, we’ve been covering several stories from Tuttosport which said Juve are willing to sign Alvaro Morata from Chelsea.

The Italian newspaper insisted that the Old Lady were focused on bringing their old striker back, despite having the Manchester United attacker Anthony Martial as an alternative.

But after evaluating the situation, it looks like the Juve may end up having other plans for the summer market.

Tuttosport explains that Martial could be an easier signing for the Serie A champions for multiple reasons, and even though the club will keep working on both fronts, the Frenchman’s move sounds more likely.

First thing is the price.

With Atletico Madrid interested in Morata, the Spanish side could pay the €60m at once in case they sell Antoine Griezmann. That’s not something Juve want to do, so they would look for a loan deal with a buying clause.

Morata’s salary is also a problem, as he currently makes €7m, after tax, per season at Chelsea. Martial only earns half of that, making things easier for Juve not only to match these numbers, but maybe even to give him a rise.

Also on Martial’s side, there is the good relationship between Juventus and Manchester United. The clubs have been in daily contacts to discuss the likes of Paul Pogba, Matteo Darmian and Mario Mandzukic. These conversations could make things easier to find a deal for the Frenchman.

Things still seem to be at a pretty early stage, especially with both players out of the World Cup, having plenty of time to negotiate. But for now, the odds are starting to move in favour of Anthony Martial.
