Earlier today, we covered the surprising claims from Italy which said Everton are interested in signing Napoli star Lorenzo Insigne.
Live on Radio Kiss Kiss, journalist Ciro Venerato broke the news which he had learned ‘just a few minutes ago’, as the Toffees were mentioned in the battle for his transfer.
The reporter claimed he doesn’t see the move as very likely, but still, that was a pretty strong claim to make at any stage of the transfer market.
Now it seems this rumour is gaining more strength, because it’s Sky Italia who now report Everton’s interest in the player.
Journalist Luca Marchetti is the one saying the Toffees are now, along with Zenit, in the race for the signing. Both clubs could now compete with Inter Milan, who’d been talks for Insigne for longer.
“Real interest for Insigne comes from Everton, where Rafa Benitez is, and from Zenit St. Petersburg, and it’s necessary to verify how much Inter can do seriously. Inter made it clear that they were there with transversal messages,” said the journalist (via Calcio Napoli 24).
As we already said, Everton don’t seem to have a big budget this summer, and as Lorenzo Insigne isn’t a cheap player to be signed, that’s enough to make us doubt those claims. On top of that, the player leaving Naples would be a big change for him, so departing Italy entirely would be something of a shock.
