Following reports this week claiming Chelsea could spend €70m on FC Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa, it’s time for the Portuguese media to talk about it.

Even though it’s usual to see the local press insisting their clubs should demand more and more for their stars, that isn’t the case this time.

It’s on CMTV that Record director Vitor Pinto talked about the rumours, claiming Porto should take Chelsea’s offer.

“For €70m, for a goalkeeper, I think it would be unreasonable for Porto not to sell Diogo Costa. And Diogo Costa himself, receiving a vote of confidence from Chelsea in this dimension, will certainly also be available to embrace this project.”

Pinto, however, points out that Chelsea may still get some competition for the signing. He claims that even though the Blues may have already been in contacts with Jorge Mendes for the transfer, it’s unlikely they’ll be alone in the race, since other clubs had already got in touch with Gestifute for the goalkeeper.

Diogo Costa is protected by Porto with a €75m release clause, and Pinto considers it’s unlikely that this €5m difference would stop the deal from happening.

Now despite all those comments, we’re still to see actual reports from Portugal regarding Chelsea’s effort for the signing. The offer may just be an idea at this, and until it’s actually made, or serious talks begin, this is all in the initial stages.
