One of the big surprises of the January transfer window was the decision from Juventus’ end to sign Carlos Alcaraz on loan from Southampton with an option to buy.

Much has since been made of the €49.5m required to make the move permanent, with many in Italy believing the Turin side won’t trigger it.

Either way, for Alcaraz, who was presented to the press on Thursday afternoon, relayed by TuttoMercatoWeb, the price tag isn’t something that’s on his mind, simply happy to be at a club he holds dear, and not in the Championship with Southampton.

Asked about the option to buy, he said: “I’m not scared. The subject of the price will be seen in time. I intend to do well and maybe it becomes a fair price or not. I am calm. I know I have to work well.”

The media were also curious as to what the Southampton loanee thought of himself, and whether Max Allegri had asked him to do anything in particular since his arrival.

His answer to that? “I don’t like losing, not even in training. I always want to win, that’s my attitude. The manager asks me to do the things I know how to do. I’m calm because I see the confidence in me.”

Whether Juventus pay that amount to Southampton remains to be seen, but they have every incentive to play him, as the price of the loan fee will go down the more time he spends on the pitch.
