As Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Raul Jimenez this week had a word with the Mexican media, his head injury and recovery were among the main topics of the conversation.

Speaking to TUDN, the 31-year-old talked about his decision to return to football, praising his family for the part they played and the help they gave him.

“I gave value to things before, but now I think more, and knowing that now I am a father of a family, I want to be an example for my children, more than for anyone, but well, I also know that I can be an example in life for many people who believe that it is not possible, and I want to let them know that it is possible,” Jimenez told TUDN.

“I think it’s an easy decision because, as I told you, that’s what I wanted to do, and my family has always supported me in that. When I told them that I didn’t care what happened, that I wanted to go back and that I was going to do it, they never told me no, or to think about it, or to take care of myself. They were always there with me, supporting me through the good times and the bad, they never got in the way or anything like that.”

Raul Jimenez returned for Wolves at the start of last season, and couldn’t repeat the success he’d had at the club in years before, contributing six goals and five assists in 36 appearances. That even encouraged some rumours regarding a potential departure from the Molineux this season.

The striker now admits he didn’t have a great campaign, and insists he’s aiming for improvement in the 2022/23 season.

“I think so and I’m going for more, that’s what I want, never being satisfied with reaching a limit and being there, always going for more, going forward looking for new goals and new things to do with both the team and the staff.”

Since arriving from Benfica in 2018, he holds an impressive record of 54 goals and 23 assists in 146 games.

In the same interview, he admitted he fails to have the same success at the national team, despite not finding an explanation for it.

“I don’t know, sometimes things just don’t work out, there are times when you have to get together, be aware that if things aren’t working out, keep working. There are great players, many of us are in good teams, and together we can be even better.”
