İlkay Gündoğan, who left Manchester City as a free agent last summer, is involved in a big controversy following Barcelona’s elimination from the Champions League.
Right after the loss to Paris Saint Germain this week, the player made strong comments about how his team lost control of the match, giving a special mention to Ronaldo Araujo getting sent off so early in the game.
Now as Mundo Deportivo features some quotes from the Uruguayan defender, he makes it clear that the situation with Gundogan is tense.
Araujo was directly asked by local journalists about the quotes from the former Manchester City man, and said: “I prefer to keep my thoughts to myself, there are values and codes that I think should be followed.”
This is now all over the Spanish media and the issue between the pair is being made into something of a Telenovela.
This isn’t the first time Gundogan has been involved in this kind of controversy since moving to Barcelona, and we’ll see how this story develops until the end of the season, with the Catalan side having a big task to overcome the eight-point gap between them and Real Madrid in La Liga.
When defending her husband on social media, Gundogan’s wife pointed out he has a ‘treble mentality’, and that reference to his time at Manchester City may only make the situation worse.
