Wolverhampton’s top scorer of the 2017/18 season Diogo Jota is very much looking forward to be playing in the Premier League for the club.

Jota gave a long interview to Portuguese newspaper Jornal de Notícias at the weekend, and made it clear how excited he is to be featuring in England’s top tier for the first time.

“It is a childhood dream, because I have always watched, from a very young age, the games that were broadcast on Portuguese television,” Jota told Jornal de Notícias. “The atmosphere and the way the theoretically weaker teams beat the strongest have always fascinated me and I always thought I’d get there.

“Fortunately, I didn’t go through a shortcut, I went for a longer route, but I think this might help me in the future. And here I am fulfilling the Premier League dream.”

“It will be difficult because all teams have high budgets and high quality players. I think the moment of the players will make all the difference.”

On Wolverhampton’s signings, Jornal de Notícias mentioned the two of them are well known in Portugal, Rui Patrício and Raul Jimenez.

Jota said: “Yes. The signing of Rui Patrício is one of the most impressive in Wolverhampton’s history and, for all that he represents, will always be an asset to the team. Raul Jimenez will also be an asset, we can make good games with him in the attack.”

Speaking a little bit about Portuguese football, Jota was asked about Diogo Dalot’s transfer to Manchester United, who’s leaving Porto quite young, just like he did.

“Understanding is the least I can do. Manchester United are, and always have been, one of the biggest clubs in the world.”

On facing Dalot next season, Jota said: “I’ve been with Dalot in the U21 team and some Porto training last season, and this will be an interesting duel. Both he and Ricardo Pereira.

“I have already had the opportunity to tell them that, because of the quality they have, I hoped to have other fullbacks as opponents, but it’s always good to have people from our country on the pitch.”
