Leeds United defender Pontus Jansson has told the Swedish media he doesn’t expect to start the vital game against Mexico on Wednesday.

Speaking to Sportbladet, the Leeds United player was asked about being brought back into the starting line up by Sweden manager Janne Andersson.

“It was good to see Vigge (Victor Lindelof) come in and do well after illness. Had I been Janne I would not have changed (said Jansson jokingly).”

“Clearly, I want to play but all I want is to make the second round.”

Due to Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof becoming ill just 24 hours before Sweden’s opening game against South Korea, Jansson made a rare start for his country.

However, after boasting he wouldn’t succumb to the sickness bug sweeping the Sweden camp the Leeds United star became ill himself a couple of days before the game against Germany.

This took the pressure off Andersson when selecting his team for the Germany game and he was able to bring Lindelof back into the starting eleven, with Jansson not being 100% fit.

The Manchester United player is expected to keep his place for the Mexico clash.
