Manchester City’s Yan Couto was on loan at Girona last season, where he was mainly used as a substitute.

In the summer window, the 21-year-old returned to the La Liga side for a third spell, signing on another loan deal. Operating as a right-back and a right wing-back, he has managed a goal and three assists from 12 league games this season.

Girona are leading the league table and, two points ahead of Real Madrid and four ahead of Barcelona.

Mundo Deportivo had a chat with the Manchester City owned player to discuss Girona’s flying start to the season. Towards the end, he also talked about his plans beyond this season.

The Brazil international’s deal at Manchester City runs until 2025 and when asked if he thinks about his future, he said: “Obviously I have hopes and I think about my future.

“I want to be at the highest level and I am very happy to be at Girona, but I also want to play in the Champions League, I don’t know if here or at Manchester City, although I love Spain. I see myself playing more in La Liga, but we have to see what options we can consider for next year [season].”

Mundo then asked the defender whether he would be open to extending his stay at the La Liga side, if they were to qualify for the Champions League next season.

Responding to that, Couto explained: “We have to talk about it, why not be here another year? I think it is also a City Group plan and will be discussed at the time, although we will leave it until the end of the season.”

Manchester City signed the player from Brazilian side Coritiba in 2020 and he’s yet to make an appearance for them.
