Everton star Richarlison has insisted he would be ‘ashamed’ if he were a football fan cheering for a country other than his own.

The Brazil international recently sat down for a conversation with Goal Brasil to discuss a whole range of topics in his career, from Everton to the Brazilian national team.

The subject of the Selecao is something of a contentious one at present, with Brazil’s senior team having something of a fractious relationship with their fans.

That’s something Richarlison has been acutely aware of during his time with the team, particularly during the Copa America last year.

That saw off-field issues and problems with the Brazil fans, with many Brazilians insisting that they were going to cheer for rivals Argentina rather than their own team.

That went some way to showing the growing level of contempt they have for their national side, and the Everton star is less than impressed by that attitude.

“Everyone has their own choice. I can’t say anything for them,” he told Goal Brasil.

“If it were me, I would be a little ashamed to be in one country and support another. I think it’s a lack of respect too, but it’s their opinion.

“Today, I’m even a little bit hated by those fans who cheer for Argentina. But it’s normal, keep on dancing.

“I’m there to do mine, which is to continue honouring my shirt, the yellow shirt, and the game goes on.”
