Metinho remains hopeful of playing for Manchester City one day.

The 19-year-old, who started his career in Brazil, was sold by Fluminense to the City Group back in 2021. He first joined Troyes, and is currently having a loan spell at Lommel SK.

The youngster this week spoke to the Brazilian media, being interviewed by IG, and he recalled why the possibility of joining Manchester City still crosses his mind.

As soon as he made the move to Europe a couple of years ago, he had a serious injury which left him sidelined for a while. That’s when he travelled to England and met Pep Guardiola, being told the manager was keeping an eye on him.

“One of the best coaches in the world to say that for sure is gratifying and very motivating,” Metinho told IG.

“It shows that my work has been paying off and I hope one day to have the opportunity to work with him.”

At the time the City Group signed Metinho, they also bought his Fluminense teammate Kayky, who was initially brought directly to Manchester City, but then ended up loaned out to several clubs.

Kayky is now back to Brazil, where he’s having a loan spell at Bahia. So at this stage, it really seems Metinho would be closer to playing under Pep Guardiola.
