Earlier this week, there was a report in Sweden which claimed Tottenham’s Dejan Kuluveski could be the national team captain in the not so distant future.

It was said that the 23-year-old is ‘more analytical and vocal’ than his teammate Victor Lindelof, and could soon be given the armband.

Now as Kulusevski spoke to the Swedish press and is quoted by Fotbollskanalen, he seems prepared to take that role at the national team.

With the arrival of manager Jon Dahl Tomasson, Sweden are set to have a group around the captain, so more than one person guiding the team. The Tottenham player is glad to be in there, and highlighted the qualities he has.

“I feel like a part of it. I feel like an important player and important person for the group. I have great contact with the new coach and Victor. I can contribute a lot,” said Kulusevski.

“I feel involved. I have knowledge. I have played this exact football at Tottenham. I feel like I know most of what he’s talking about.”

With Sweden out of the Euros this year, they are now beginning a new cycle at the national team, with the changes going far beyond the swap of managers.

During this international break, they’ll be facing Portugal and Albania in a couple of friendlies, and that’s where Kulusevski will have the chance to take on a more important role. The Tottenham player has 35 appearances for the national team, having made his debut in 2019.
