This week, reports from the Brazilian media claimed that West Ham United are one of the clubs interested in signing Lyon midfielder Thiago Mendes.
It was said that following the Hammers’ matches against the French side in the Europa League, the London side started chasing the 30-year-old and plan to go for his signing this summer.
West Ham were said to have competition from Flamengo, but their economic advantage, along with the fact of featuring in the Premier League, would help them to beat Brazilian competition for the player.
That all said, Thiago Mendes was interviewed this week by the French media, where he had a word with Olympique-et-Lyonnais.com.
Thiago Mendes claimed to be focused on Lyon for now, but did not rule out a move.
“The first thing, I already want to finish this championship very well. I don’t know what will happen after,” said Mendes.
“I still have a year of contract left with the club for which I give my all. I’ll leave here anyway with my head held high. If the president called me to discuss whether or not to renew my contract, I would come and sit with him to listen to him. And if I have to stay for a year, I will always give the best of myself.”
