Happening out of the blue, Bernardo Silva to Manchester City appears to be the first of many moves Pep Guardiola is planning to make this summer to bolster the squad at his disposal.

Clearly unhappy with how some of his players performed last season, the Spaniard is also expected to complete the signing of Benfica goalkeeper Ederson before the end of the week.

Back to Bernardo Silva, however, who was, for a very long time, touted to sign for Manchester United, after reports of pre-agreements and such circulated in France.

Seemingly happening overnight, the capture of the Portuguese playmaker is a big sign of intent from Manchester City, and it appears the move is one Silva is delighted with, as he explained to RMC on Wednesday evening.

He said: “When I got the chance to play in the Premier League, to be managed by Guardiola and to play with players like Kevin De Bruyne, Sergio Agüero or David Silva, I couldn’t say no. It’s also a good deal for Monaco (RMC claim €50m + €20m in bonuses), I’m very happy. I’m going to play in the best league in the world.”

Speaking of Manchester City’s manager, Bernardo Silva revealed he got the chance to have a brief 10 minute chat with Guardiola after he signed the deal, who gave him a few hints as to where he would be using him next year.

He said: “He said I needed to get used to the league, the club. He told me where he wanted to play me. He sees me on the right or in the middle. I can play in both positions, but I can also help out on the left if need be.”

Revealing he moved because he ‘wanted to try something different’, Silva is however very pleased he was able to leave on a high note, by helping Monaco lift the Ligue 1 trophy.

Another man who could be leaving the Stade Louis II in the summer is Benjamin Mendy, and if Silva had a say in the matter, he’d bring him to the Etihad.

He said: “He’s a friend. If he can play with me, I’d rather have him on my team than against me. Especially since he’s a left-back and I play down the right”.

The 22-year-old scored 11 goals and picked up 12 assists in 58 games for Monaco last season.
