Last month, Tottenham Hotspur star Richarlison opened up about his personal issues, explaining how therapy ‘saved his life’.

His quotes had a big impact in the sports media, with outlets from all over the world commenting on his situation, and that surely hasn’t gone unnoticed among his teammates at Spurs.

Tottenham defender Cristian Romero was this week interviewed by the Argentine press, and in quotes brought by Olé, he talked about Richarlison a little.

Even though Brazil and Argentina are fierce football rivals, it’s no secret that Brazilians and Argentines get along quite well at European clubs, and the defender highlighted their friendship, explaining he knew that the centre-forward had been struggling with those issues for a while.

“I know he had a bad time, we talk all the time. I know he didn’t have the best time, he had some personal problems, but the important thing is that he is well, happy,” said Romero.

“I see him very well, he had suffered an injury, he is coming back little by little and for us he is a very important player. Until he got injured, he was in the best way, at a great level.

“I want him to be fine, he’s a great boy, I hope the personal situations that caused him to have a bad time will settle down. Football is the least of it. Let’s hope he is well, let’s hope he continues like this.”

Those comments were made right after last night’s match between West Ham and Tottenham, which ended in a 1-1 draw, with Romero and Richarlison both featuring for Ange Postecoglou’s side.

Spurs stayed 5th in the Premier League table, two points behind Aston Villa. They now prepare to play Nottingham Forest in London at the weekend.
