Letting both Arjen Robben and Franck Ribéry leave on frees this summer, Bayern Munich were in the finding a new winger business.

Their search eventually led them to Manchester City’s Leroy Sané, who looked set to swap the north of England for Bavaria before injury struck in the Community Shield, leaving the Germany international out for most of the season.

That scuppered any transfer, and while reports have come in Bayern will come back in January for another attempt as the player continues his recovery, there’s no guarantee Pep Guardiola and co. actually will.

One man, however, who would really enjoy playing with Sané is his national teammate and potential competition Serge Gnabry.

Asked by Le Buteur if he would advise Sané to move to Bayern, he said: “Of course, Leroy is a friend of mine. Of course I’d want to play with him in the same club”.

A ringing endorsement for the Manchester City man, who will clearly be welcome in the Bundesliga should he transfer there.

First, though, rehabilitation will be his focus, and things appear to be heading in the right direction in that department.
