It seems there’s now a growing belief in Argentina that Marcos Rojo could end up heading back to Estudiantes de La Plata.

Following the player’s loan spell at the South American side from January to June, the club fought hard to keep him for longer, but Manchester United didn’t accept that plan.

The Red Devils demanded the defender return in England so they can sell him on a permanent move and finally cash-in from his departure.

However, nobody seems to be close to signing Marcos Rojo from the Old Trafford side, and that’s why outlets such as El Dia now give Estudiantes some hope.

The newspaper writes today that Estudiantes are watching the situation ‘attentively’ as they now hope to sign the player as a free agent.

They point out that his contract expires in June 2021, and in case Manchester United don’t manage to sell him in the current transfer window, Rojo will have the decision in his own hands. That means he can sign a pre-contract from January.

El Dia isn’t the first Argentine to talk about this possibility in the past few days. On Saturday, it was newspaper Olé who said the defender return to Estudiantes in 2021.
