Timo Werner, remember him? Apparently not if you’re Tottenham, who signed him again in the summer, or the German national side.

That’s according to Sport 1, who cover the player today and how ‘things have gone quiet’ for the 28-year-old on multiple fronts.

They explain that Werner has managed just 28 minutes of football in the Premier League so far after returning to Tottenham on loan from RB Leipzig in the summer.

That’s a ‘poor interim result’ that does not bode well for his season, which he will have been hoping could revive his chances of getting his career back on track.

He’s so far out of the picture that Tottenham fans recently acted with surprise when he was a part of the announcement of their third kit for this season.

One comment read “Timo doesn’t look so happy” and the belief is that could be seen as a symbol for the current phase of his career.

He had been enjoying himself on loan at Tottenham in the second half of last season and appeared to be back on track, but a thigh injury brought that to an end. He was signed again in the summer, yet in the interim Tottenham have invested in their forward line with the record signing of Dominic Solanke and Wilson Odobert.

That’s added more competition alongside the likes of Heung-min Son, Richarlison, Dejan Kulusevski and Brennan Johnson. Thus, Werner is moving down the hierarchy. Regular starting appearances are likely to be ‘extremely difficult’.

That could be a further blow to his chances of reviving his career with Germany too. He does not seem to have a future there for now under Julian Nagelsmann.

He knows the player well from their time together at RB Leipzig. In fact, the forward enjoyed the best spell of his career, scoring 34 goals in 45 games under the German boss.

However, if he’s not in Tottenham’s plans then the door to the national team is unlikely to be opened for him.

It’s a grim picture for Werner, who appears to be out of the picture at Tottenham and thus out of sight for Germany too.
