Not so long ago there was a spate of stories linking Newcastle United with a move for Yoshinori Muto and now they’re likely to return.
German magazine SportBild this week report the FSV Mainz player fancies a change and despite the German club not planning on letting their better players go, he sounds determined.
The 25 year old forward is quoted by SportBild as saying: “I cannot say much, but it has always been my goal to play in the Premier League.”
Newcastle are the only club named as a possible destination, and it sounds like they have the will of the player on their side.
Muto can play across the front three but has been in a central striking role for Mainz this season. In 28 games, 9 of those as a substitute, he’s scored 9 goals and made 2 assists.
Mainz have the player on a contract until June 2019, but have an option to extend that by a further year. Despite the extra cushion, if Muto doesn’t want to renew then this summer is the time to sell him, which would be good news for any Newcastle United interest.
Muto is out of the picture for the Japan international team at the moment which may present a work permit hurdle, but perhaps he knows he can get over that, otherwise it would be odd to talk of a goal which isn’t possible.
