Manchester United are ‘in talks’ with Barcelona over a deal for Frenkie de Jong, with Barcelona desperate to sell.

That’s according to Sport 1 journalist Patrick Berger, who says Erik ten Hag remains a big fan of his former Ajax star.

Berger reports that Barcelona need to sell players quickly to ease the financial burden at the club and be able to rebuild their team.

At this moment in time, they are unable to register new signings like Franck Kessie or Andreas Christensen, while a move for Robert Lewandowski will have to be held off as they sort out their finances.

One way to ease that pressure would be to sell players, and high earners, from the current squad, and De Jong fits the bill perfectly.

He’s been linked with a move away for months, with Manchester United put at the front of the queue courtesy of Ten Hag, who enjoyed a fruitful relationship with the player during their time together at Ajax.

And it seems talks are now underway for them to reunite at Old Trafford, with Berger reporting that Barcelona are ‘in talks’ with Manchester United to make a deal happen.

His sources report that Ten Hag is a ‘big fan’ of the midfielder, and Barcelona are now keen to sell for a figure of €80m.

Whether that’s a price United are willing to pay isn’t mentioned, but talks are underway between the two clubs nonetheless.
