There are two clubs in the Premier League currently desperate for a new centre-back.

One of them is West Ham, who, in more public fashioned, have been joined by Fulham after the owner made it clear new reinforcements were needed before the end of the transfer window.

That’s why it isn’t a big surprise to see the two of them linked with the same player this late, with Valencia’s Mouctar Diakhaby the target.

The Frenchman hasn’t had the best of times in Spain since swapping Lyon for the La Liga club two years ago, but this season was meant to be the one where he stood more of a chance of playing regularly.

Foot Mercato explain that with Ezequiel Garay leaving, this freed up a space for the centre-back, meaning he isn’t exactly on the market.

That hasn’t stopped clubs from coming knocking, however, with Champions League finalists Paris Saint-Germain recently reported to have taken information about the 23-year-old’s situation, and they have now been joined by Fulham and West Ham.

Both the Cottagers and the Hammers are said to have ‘taken the temperature’ about Diakhaby potentially leaving, but that’s as far as it goes for now.

There are no details about how much the defender would cost, as those would probably come out a bit later if either West Ham or Fulham make a move.

It remains to be seen if anything comes of this, but you can add Diakhaby to the long list of names currently on a board at Craven Cottage and the London Stadium.
