Fulham defender Kenny Tete has shared his delight at the club’s move for Calvin Bassey this summer, having spoken to him regarding life at Ajax.

The full-back has been speaking to ViaPlay in the Netherlands regarding the defender, who arrived from Ajax in a €22.5m deal at the end of last month.

He originally joined the Dutch club in a €23m move from Rangers last summer after impressing at Ibrox but endured a difficult year at the club amid their struggles last season.

A series of high-profile errors and mistakes saw him continuously criticised and ultimately led to Ajax sanctioning an exit this summer, something Fulham moved quickly to take advantage of.

He’s quickly made a positive impression at his new club, impressing in pre-season and earning admiration from Fulham’s fanbase.

He’s yet to start a game in the Premier League, sitting on the bench for the win over Everton and featuring for just 23 minutes in the 3-0 loss to Brentford last weekend.

Tete believes that could be about to change, though, admitting his delight at the deal and conversations with the defender regarding life at Ajax.

“I think he’s a good bloke and I am happy he is coming to help us,” he said.

“His competitor (Tim Ream) made a red card the previous game, so maybe he will start this weekend.

“A lot has changed when I talk to him about [Ajax], and I compare it to the time when I was there.”
