This week L’Equipe brought Manchester United strongly into the Clement Lenglet situation. There had been rumours of interest previously, but the French newspaper pushed Jose Mourinho’s club forward as a real option.

Barcelona are the side who have been most linked with the Sevilla player and whilst initially that was as a potential replacement for Samuel Umtiti it’s now something different.

Umtiti has renewed his contract with Barca and won’t be going anywhere, but the links to the Catalan club continue.

On Thursday evening Foot Mercato journalist Rablat Cedric put out a tweet saying Manchester United have today ‘for the first time’ contacted the ‘clan’ of Lenglet.

Barcelona, via Eric Abidal, who now has a more official role at the La Liga side, have done the same. Abidal wants to meet the player, which may be an effort to assure Lenglet he’d not simply be a bench player should he move to Barcelona this summer.

With a Sevilla release clause of €30-40m (with various different claims over the past month), Lenglet is very much achievable for Manchester United should they want him.
