Transfer deadline day was very eventful for Bamba Dieng, who at one point thought he was signing for Leeds United.
The Elland Road side had even sent a private jet to Nice airport to try and get the player to England in time to beat the clock, but then OGC Nice came knocking and managed to convince the player to snub Jesse Marsch’s side.
After all, staying in the south of France would have meant staying in the same league and not having to turn his world upside down, so that’s the option he chose instead of going to Leeds.
However, in a cruel twist, the player then failed his medical with the Ligue 1 side, forcing him to return to Marseille, where he has since been pushed to one side.
The manager, talking to the press ahead of this weekend’s clash against Rennes, revealed that he had decided to bring him back into the fold.
He said, relayed by Foot Mercato: “If I have to use a word to describe it, it was a ‘complicated’ summer for him, but he’s someone who’s really formidable, very kind. He’s training and is now a part of the group.”
This means the player will now get a chance to prove himself again, perhaps with the aim of attracting new interest for January.
However, after what happened last time, we doubt Jesse Marsch and Leeds will come knocking again.
