Having just sold the second half of his Leeds United shares to his business partner Andrea Radrizzani, relinquishing control of the club in the process, Massimo Cellino is back in the club buying business.
According to a few reports in Italy, including Tuttosport on Thursday, the former Leeds owner is interested in buying Genoa after their current owner, Enrico Preziosi, admitted he would be willing to listen to offers.
Previously owning Cagliari, Cellino is known for his short temper when it comes to managers, with Garry Monk one of few exceptions after spending a whole season in charge at Elland Road.
Tuttosport say the former Leeds owner was close to Brescia, yet his entourage have also confirmed an interest in Genoa, confirmed by his lawyer, Antonio Ghirardi.
He said: “For an ambitious businessman like Cellino, Genoa would certainly be a lot better. A few years ago, he was close to Sampdoria. This time, it’s the Genoan club who are interested in him. Cellino is like an important footballer who is linked to and wanted by a lot of clubs.”
While Genoa could certainly do with Cellino’s money, who made around €60m from his sale of Leeds shares, the Italian businessman taking over at a club generally means a few years of unrest.
The club might want him, but fans are a different matter altogether.
