On October 22nd, Jose Mourinho revealed that his future is at Manchester United and he’s not currently interested in managing Real Madrid for the second time.
Earlier today, Marca reported it would be a ‘bizarre operation’ that the Portuguese tactician would be replacing Julen Lopetegui at Santiago Bernabeu anytime soon and the suggestion was termed as ‘science fiction’ after Mourinho’s comments on Monday.
But that hasn’t stopped the rumours linking the Red Devils boss with the managerial job at the Spanish capital club.
Diego Torres, writing for El Pais, has another report linking the current Red Devils boss to his former club and claims the La Liga giants have already contacted the 55-year-old to offer him the job.
The Champions League winners director general, Jose Angel Sanchez, has held talks with the ex-Chelsea coach and is aware that an operation to secure his services for the second time will be complex because his contract Old Trafford expires in 2020 and his employer has an option to further extend it by a year.
Mourinho sees his side sit 10th in the table with 14 points after nine games and after a poor start to the campaign, the report claims he is waiting to be fired and the leaders of Real Madrid have even found out the formula for the manager to negotiate his exit from United.
El Pais mentions that if Mourinho asks to leave, he is likely to lose most of his compensation fee, which he will be entitled if the 20-time English champions sack him.
Real’s intention is to promote Castilla coach Santiago Solari to the first team and he will be the interim manager until a new manager is appointed. The ideal situation for them is to wait for Mourinho to be sacked at Manchester United and allow him to collect his compensation and then appoint him as Real Madrid manager.
The European champions are ready offer him a contract until 2021 that includes €10-€12m net salary per season. Whether the three-time Premier League winner is viewed as a long-term bet or not, Florentino Perez thinks of him as a ‘shock therapy’ as he is in search of an ‘authoritarian leader’.
Despite Mourinho’s comments, the saga linking him to Real Madrid is unlikely to end soon. We will have more on this episode from the Spanish press.
