With ESPN Brasil broadcasting the FA Cup clash between Nottingham Forest and Liverpool on Sunday, they featured an interview with someone who had a lot to say about the home side.

Leo Bonatini, who played for Nottingham Forest in 2019, talked about his experience at the club, and what he’d learned during the short spell he had there.

“Younger Brazilians may not know the history, but it is a very traditional club,” Bonatini told ESPN Brasil.

“On the first day I went to sign a contract, they took me to see the trophy room, the photos of the players who passed through there and I received a notebook with the club’s achievements. You feel like it’s not a normal club.”

Now despite Forest’s success in the past, Bonatini claims the club haven’t stopped there.

“They are proud of everything they’ve been through, but I didn’t think it was a club stuck in the past. The board really wants to assemble a strong squad to gain access to the Premier League. Their ambition is to win titles again in the future.

“Even with the renovations that went through over the years, they tried to keep the old look, with some columns in the stands. The structure of the club is very good, with a great training centre, which has several fields even for the academy.”

Leo Bonatini moved to England in 2018, signing for Wolverhampton Wanderers, and then got involved in several loan moves. The first was to Al Hilal, and then he joined Nottingham Forest in January 2019.

His spell at the City Ground wasn’t exactly great, with only five appearances and no goals scored. That’s a good reason why he was sent back to Wolves, where he was then loaned to Vitória Guimarães and Grasshopper Zurich.

The striker is still having his two-year spell in Switzerland, and will return to the Molineux at the end of the season. There he has a contract running until 2023.
