Despite signing Sérgio Oliveira on loan from FC Porto, AS Roma could still do with an extra midfielder, with Boubacar Kamara top of their list.
However, he isn’t the only name Tiago Pinto and his merry band of transfer people are looking at, with Wolverhampton Wanderers’ João Moutinho recently appearing in the transfer rumour mill.
This comes from a couple of outlets in Italy on Wednesday, who explain how this has come about, with La Repubblica, via Siamo La Roma, stating the Serie A side ‘risks’ becoming more and more Portuguese, with ‘the latest transfer idea’ being the Wolves man.
It’s said José Mourinho ‘really likes the profile and wouldn’t mind taking him’ in his squad, and with the 35-year-old’s contract at Molineux running out in the summer, which is why he is a ‘market opportunity that entices Tiago Pinto, and not just a little’.
First, however, the director needs to offload someone from the current squad before moving for Moutinho, with Amadou Diawara the favourite in that department.
All of this is somewhat echoed by Corriere della Sera’s Roma edition, who immediately claim that ‘Mourinho likes Moutinho’, and explain to their readers that despite his age, he still is a regular at Wolves and would certainly help the Italian club, because ‘in the Premier League, if you don’t run and fight, you won’t play’.
One to keep an eye on, because this makes some sense, especially if Wolverhampton can get a little money for a player they almost certainly were prepared to wave goodbye to on a free in the summer.
