Unless you missed it on Wednesday evening, there’s a new boy on the block at Manchester City, and his name is Aleix Garcia.

The 19-year-old started the game against Swansea in the EFL Cup, playing the full 90 minutes, and capped off an impressive display by finding the back of the net for his side’s second of a 2-1 win.

Also making his Premier League debut at the weekend against Bournemouth, the excitement in the Spanish press over the youngster is already palpable, and it’s only going to get bigger if he continues to perform.

Sport, for example, get a bit carried away on Friday with their profile on the player, calling him Pep Guardiola’s “Catalan Iniesta”, and while the similarities are there, it might be a bit too soon to make the comparisons just yet.

Looking at the player’s past, the daily newspaper spoke to a few people who have watched the player grow up, and the underlying message is that he’s rather good.

“He makes the difficult stuff look easy”, said one, while another explained ‘he can equally play short or long’.

Bought for three million euros from Villarreal, Sport explain there are a few ‘extraordinary’ clauses in the deal that could bring the La Liga side a lot more money, but City won’t care if he grows into the player they know he can become.

As one person told Sport: “He has the DNA that Guardiola loves. His best attribute is probably his character. He’s a ‘sponge’ when it comes to learning and putting into practice new concepts without being nervous, which is key in elite football.”

Probably one to watch over the season, then, don’t you think?
