Radu Drăgușin hasn’t yet established himself at Tottenham Hotspur since joining them from Genoa in the January transfer window.
The Romania international was a regular at the Serie A side but has been restricted to 229 minutes from six league games with Spurs.
Drăgușin’s limited game time at Tottenham has led to some concerns in his country but former Romania defender Ioan Andone has told Digi Sport that he isn’t worried about it.
In fact, Andone has backed the 22-year-old to succeed at the north London club, once he settles in and adapts to the needs of the Premier League.
“He’s an exceptional player, especially at this young age, when he can still accumulate knowledge. He succeeded in the Italian championship and now he has to get used to the pace in the Premier League, where the level is above Serie A,” he said.
“I say he needs time to settle in! He has all the qualities to become a starter at Tottenham. It’s hard to get into your rhythm when you play one stage, then 20 minutes or sit on the bench,” Andone explained.
Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven have been the first-choice centre-back pairing for Tottenham.
Andone has explained what Drăgușin has to do in order to win over Postecoglou at the Premier League side, but doesn’t know how long it will take for his compatriot to achieve it.
“I’m convinced he works hard and knows what he has to do. That’s what he has to do: work. A very good centre-back doesn’t need extraordinary talent, but hard work. He doesn’t live on talent, he lives on work. I think he’ll be fine, but we don’t know how long that will last,” he added.
According to the 64-year-old, his compatriot hasn’t ‘lost confidence’ at Tottenham so far.
“I think with him there can’t be a confidence problem. I think he realised before he signed that he wasn’t going to be a starter. He has to fight for his place and be better every day,” Andone said.
