FC Utrecht manager Ron Jans believes they may face problems with Rangers this summer if they try to sign Sam Lammers on a permanent basis.

Jans has been speaking to Voetbal International, relayed by Voetbal Primeur, about Lammers’ current situation after arriving on loan from Philippe Clements side in the January transfer window.

He had found himself out of the picture under Clement since his arrival last year and elected to return to the Netherlands with Utrecht at the beginning of the January transfer window.

His loan deal from Ibrox doesn’t include a purchase option, meaning a decision will have to be made about him once the summer comes around.

Given he’s managed five goals and three assists in 12 games in the Eredivisie for Utrecht so far and featured in 99% of the available minutes for the club since his arrival, it’s easy to imagine they’d like to sign him permanently.

The issue is what fee Rangers would demand, particularly as the player’s contract at Ibrox expires in 2027.

As always, it’s a matter of money and Jans admits as much, believing there will be two issues to deal with if they are to get Lammers out of Clements’ squad permanently.

“From the start, he plays football well and works hard. I also think, just like him, that he didn’t need a run-up here,” he said.

“That question is the most important for Sam himself, because everyone is different.

“At the same time, because I really think he is a good striker, I think that if he stays with us for another year, he will then be better off to then try that other step again.

“Stay in the warm bath for a while, I would say. However, there are still many things that neither we nor Sam can control to continue working together next year. That is indeed mainly about two factors. Rangers and money.”
