Despite missing the last two Premier League games for Burnley through injury, Ameen Al-Dhakil was called up by Domenico Tedesco for the Belgium national team.
That will have raised a few eyebrows considering the centre-back’s recent fitness, but the Clarets didn’t stop him from joining up with his compatriots.
However, Burnley and their fans can be reassured that the situation is looking good, as Tedesco provided an update on the player’s situation on Tuesday, relayed by Voetbal Nieuws.
Speaking to the press ahead of their upcoming games against Serbia and Azerbaijan, the manager was asked about the 21-year-old’s fitness.
Tedesco replied: “With Al-Dhakil, everything is under control. He too is getting fit, we have no doubts.”
That suggests the Burnley centre-back, who had started all 10 games in the Premier League prior to his setback, is on the right track, and could play as early as Wednesday if all goes well.
A situation to be monitored ahead of the game, but it’s good news for the Clarets, and especially their fans, who might have wondered whether their defender was being rushed back into action.
