Over the past few weeks, there have been regular reports linking Lille defender Gabriel Magalhães to Everton.

On April 16th, we covered claims from Le10 Sport, who stated the Toffees are believed to ‘hold the reins’ for the 22-year-old. It was also explained the Merseyside club are ahead of other suitors.

France Football now brings an update and they talk about Chelsea and Arsenal’s interest in the centre-back.

However, the two London clubs are ‘well behind’, when compared to Carlo Ancelotti’s side, in the race to sign Gabriel.

According to the report, Everton have been ‘working concretely’ on the Brazilian’s case since February and they had confirmed their intention is to offer €20m to acquire the player’s services.

Apart from Everton, Napoli have also ‘probed the track’ leading to Gabriel.

Gabriel’s contract lasts until 2023 and Lille are hoping to receive €25-30m for a player, who is expected to leave the Ligue 1 side in the summer.

Lille’s demand is €5m more than what Everton intended to offer. That doesn’t seem a major issue, and there’s the possibility part of an offer could be in bonus payments.
