As covered by Sport Witness earlier on Friday, A Bola believe Everton are back in for Porto defender Ivan Marcano.
The 30 year old has a contract expiring in June, and Valencia have been showing an interest. A Bola believe the Spanish club wouldn’t have it all their own way, with the Portuguese newspaper claiming there’s also interest from Inter Milan and Everton.
A little digging in the Sport Witness archives shows that Everton being interested would make some sense. In early September it was reported in Portugal that Everton made attempts in the ‘last minutes’ of the transfer window, attempts which obviously came to nothing.
That would all fit in with Friday’s claims.
At the time of the September claims, Porto were trying to get Marcano to sign a new contract, but they’ve so far failed and face losing the player for nothing in the summer.
Ivan Marcano is a left footed central defender who can also play at left back if required. He’s been a regular for Porto this season, and one of the best performers in a squad which sits four points clear at the top of the table.
Porto are second in their Champions League group, with a good chance of qualifying, and Everton would surely have to tempt both the club and Marcano, making any move financially attractive.
