Everton could reignite their interest in right-back Thomas Meunier with the defender set to leave Paris Saint Germain on a free transfer.
Meunier’s contract expires in the summer, and he is set to move on from Paris after four years at the club.
There is plenty of interest in the 28-year-old, and according to Het Laatste Nieuws, Everton are one of those considering making a move.
The newspaper reports that Everton ‘knocked on the door’ for the Belgian international last summer and may revive their interest this summer with him available on a free.
Indeed it is the latter that look closest to getting him at this moment in time, with reports yesterday suggesting it was already a done deal.
HLN refute that, though, claiming that while the interest is certainly there, nothing has been agreed and ‘all options are still open’ for Meunier.
That suggests Everton are within a chance should they make their move, although Dortmund will be strong competitors as they have ‘been following Meunier for years’.
He would, though, make a smart signing for the Toffees. They need a replacement for Seamus Coleman at right-back, and while there is an option to sign Djibril Sidibé permanently, it’s debatable whether they’ll do so.
Meunier is a considerable upgrade on him, and a more experienced option than Jonjoe Kenny as well, and would be the sort of savvy signing that would allow Everton to spend money improving the squad elsewhere.
