Back in 2017, there was some worry at Marseille that Manchester City could sign Boubacar Kamara before his first professional contract.
There were reports Pep Guardiola had even FaceTimed the player and his entourage in a bid to try and convince him to move to the Etihad, which all ended up in vain.
The young defender put pen to paper on a contract with the Ligue 1 club, where he is now a first-team regular and a key member of the squad under André Villas-Boas.
France Football this week took a look at what Marseille need to do in the summer, which involves selling some players, and analyse who is likeliest to go.
Kamara is one of the players whose value is the highest, and the magazine explain that when he was younger, Dortmund, Atlético Madrid and Manchester City were already snooping around.
In fact, it’s claimed the player ‘had even found an agreement with the Cityzens before Marseille turned things around’.
In the end, the French side convinced him to stay, and we are where we are now, but this is the first we’ve seen of Pep Guardiola being this close to getting Kamara, as previous reports simply suggested they had made contact with the player about a potential move.
