Everton may be given a second chance to sign Inter Milan’s Matías Vecino this summer, with the midfielder likely to leave the Serie A club.
The Blues were heavily linked with the Uruguayan in the January transfer window after Carlo Ancelotti’s arrival at Goodison Park, with it believed the Italian was a fan of the midfielder.
Ultimately a move never happened, with Vecino repairing his relationship with Antonio Conte and Inter deciding to keep him as part of the squad.
His future is likely to be away from Milan, though, with Tuttosport explaining that Inter are looking to add another midfielder to the squad in the summer and thus push Vecino further down the pecking order.
Inter are therefore keen to sell as they can receive ‘a good sum of money’ for him and use that on strengthening the squad elsewhere.
Everton are unlikely to be genuinely interested, though. Vecino was always a signing that would be a stop-gap at best and André Gomes quicker than expected return from injury has changed their stance somewhat.
Both Ancelotti and Marcel Brands have made it clear they are looking at younger players they can develop and turn into stars, and at 28, Vecino is not that type of player.
He would represent the type of signing Everton are desperately trying to move away from, making this an unlikely move at best.
