If there ever was a player needed to define the term ‘backup’, Marko Rog at Napoli would be that man.
At first glance, you could think the 22-year-old has played an important role in the Serie A club’s season, making 25 appearances so far, but the problem is, he’s not started any of those, and combines a grand total of 225 minutes in the league.
However, that hasn’t stopped teams from liking what they see, as Everton are interested in him, according to Ciro Venerato on Radio CRC, relayed by PerSempreNapoli.
According to the Italian journalist, Everton ‘have called’ Napoli about the Croatia international, joining Borussia Dortmund in their interest for the young midfielder.
Originally loaned from Dinamo Zagreb, Marko Rog was fully purchased by Maurizio Sarri’s side for around £12m, meaning there’s a good chance Everton would have to pay more than that for his services in the summer.
At 22, the former Dinamo Zagreb starlet will be on the lookout for regular first-team football to continue his development next season, but are Everton really going to give him more with the players they already have at their disposal?
We suppose that’s up to Sam Allardyce, or whoever takes over from him in the summer if the Toffees’ survey answers come back negative.
