Manchester United bolstered their attack division this season by adding Antony to their squad.

The Red Devils signed the winger from Ajax towards the end of the last transfer window and the move helped him reunite with Erik ten Hag and Lisandro Martínez at Old Trafford.

Apart from Antony, the manager looked at Brian Brobbey in order to strengthen the Manchester United strikeforce.

The 20-year-old knows Ten Hag well from his time at the Amsterdam club. He left Ajax as a free agent and joined RB Leipzig in 2021. The Eredivisie winners took him back on loan in January and made his transfer permanent in the summer.

Manchester United made an attempt for the Dutchman before he returned to Ajax on a permanent deal. That’s according to Algemeen Dagblad, who state Ten Hag ‘texted in vain’ to lure Brobbey to Old Trafford.

Ajax coach Alfred Schreuder had a telephone conversation with the player and informed he would be the leader of his new attack. That hasn’t happened so far. Things have not gone well for Brobbey this term. He is yet to start in the Champions League and has five starts in the league.

After Schreuder preferred Mohammed Kudus to lead his side’s attack, Brobbey’s return to the club ‘took an ugly turn’. AD state the latter’s supporting role is ‘most painful’ for Ajax.

Ten Hag, meanwhile, is likely to watch from afar, to see how things pan out for his compatriot at his former club.
