Manchester United could be able to sign Marcel Sabitzer on a permanent basis in the summer for €20m, with Bayern Munich open to a permanent sale.
That’s according to journalist Christian Falk, who says Bayern are waiting to see how he performs at Old Trafford before setting a price on his head.
Sabitzer joined United on loan until the end of the season at the end of the January transfer window, with the Reds moving quickly to tie up a replacement for Christian Eriksen after he was ruled out for three months through injury.
A deal for Sabitzer was wrapped up rapidly but does not include a purchase clause, meaning he will be returning to Bavaria at the end of the season.
That will depend on Manchester United, of course, who may want to keep the player should he prove to be a hit under Erik ten Hag.
That is exactly what Bayern were hoping for according to Falk, who says a permanent exit has not been ruled out by those in charge at the German champions.
“Marcel Sabitzer is currently on loan at Manchester United until the summer, however, there is no purchase clause included,” he told BILD.
“That is often done in such cases and for good reason. Bayern can demand more in a transfer fee if he performs as he is doing currently.
“He has played his way into the team and could now generate more revenue for Bayern than the €15m that it cost to sign him from Leipzig.
“One hears €20m would be conceivable and that they would sell him. He has a contract until 2025 so it is a reasonable price. The better he performs the more Bayern can get and the Bavarians take that into account.”
