Leeds United attacker Wilfried Gnonto is part of Sky Sport series ‘Italians’, where they interview Italian players who’ve been featuring abroad.

That’s the case of the 19-year-old, who had already left his country in 2020, when moving from Inter Milan to FC Zurich, and then joined the Whites in a €4.5m deal last summer.

Speaking of his experiences outside of Italy, Gnonto was asked about the player who impressed him the most since moving to the Premier League. And the Leeds player chose a Manchester City star.

“Haaland, Haaland, Haaland. He’s obvious, but he’s a monster. You don’t really realise from the TV, he’s dominant, something incredible,” Gnonto told Sky Sport (via FC Inter News).

Gnonto was also quizzed about having ever felt ‘awe’ towards a manager, and chose the national team boss.

“Mancini, it was embarrassing at first because I was a little scared. I didn’t even know what to say after he asked me something about the U17 World Cup. I was lost, in my opinion he noticed and tried to put me at ease by asking me more questions. I was at Inter when he was coaching the first team, I even took a picture of me as a kid with him. Being called up by Mancini was an incredible emotion.”

Following his move to Leeds last summer, the 19-year-old spent a few weeks featuring for the Whites’ youth ranks, but soon conquered his place in the first team. Since his debut in October, he’s made 12 appearances, with three goals and one assist for the club so far.

Just like he’d previously done at Zurich, Gnonto has been able to feature for the Whites in multiple positions in attack. His contract with the club runs until 2027.
