The sporting director of AZ has told the Dutch media talks with Tottenham Hotspur over the signing of Vincent Janseen were tough. The Netherlands international was one of Tottenham’s major signings of the summer window.

Speaking to NH, via Voetbal Primeur, Max Huiberts said the process of selling Janseen to the Premier League side took a long time because the two clubs couldn’t come to an agreement.

However, despite the tough negotiations, Hubeirts believes the Dutch side acted in the right way, and that the player was understanding of the need to get the best deal for AZ.

“It was still quite a long process, in which we went back a number of times to each other. But at the end of the day we can say we had done it right. Vincent Janssen, also realised that such a transfer also has a business side,” said the AZ chief.

Janseen signed for Tottenham in July for a transfer fee of £17m after the forward agreed to a four-year deal with the North London club. The 22-year-old impressed for AZ last season, finishing the campaign as the top scorer in the Eredivisie.
