Real Betis director of football Ramón Planes is almost expected to join Chelsea ‘if Pochettino remains’ as manager thanks to the ‘intimate’ relationship between the pair.
That’s according to Mucho Deporte, who say ‘information coming from London’ indicates that Chelsea may move to reunited Planes with Pochettino.
That information assumes that ‘if Pochettino remains at Chelsea, Planes will leave in June’ to move to Stamford Bridge because of his relationship with the Argentine.
That dates back almost 15 years to the summer of 2009 when the current Chelsea boss and the Betis sporting director were working alongside each other in Espanyol.
The close family ties and friendship means the two have often worked together, first at Espanyol and then at Tottenham, where Planes was a part of the set up during Pochettino’s time in charge from 2014-2019.
This affinity is well known at Betis, and they are ‘awaiting developments’ and whether Chelsea make a move to reunite the pair once again.
Planes currently has a three-year deal with the Spanish side that includes various clauses for permanence and renewal, but it seems the belief is that if Chelsea stick by Pochettino then it is almost inevitable they will seek Planes’ signature too.
Betis are prepared for that to happen and have plans in place should Planes depart, which at the moment remains dependent on Pochettino staying in charge at Stamford Bridge.
