Sevilla chief Monchi has admitted it was an ‘intense’ project securing Anthony Martial from Manchester United during the January transfer window.

Martial joined the Spanish side on loan until the end of the season last week, having made it clear he wanted out of Old Trafford having fallen down the pecking order.

Initially, it appeared a move would not be happening due to Manchester United’s demands, with them determined to get the deal they wanted despite Martial and his agent’s best efforts to make a move materialise.

Eventually, Sevilla managed to strike an agreement with Ralf Rangnick and co., taking the Frenchman on loan until the end of the season in a move that does not include an option for them to make it permanent in the summer.

That is something the two clubs will talk about should Martial’s short stint in Spain prove to be successful.

For now, Monchi is just pleased to have gotten the move over the line after negotiations with Manchester United that he labels ‘intense’.

“It has been intense because bringing in two players like Martial and Tecatito is not easy because the competition was so great,” La Colina de Nervion report him saying.

“Different situations, with a high market profile, but very coveted pieces of the market. We have spent a lot of time convincing and acquiring these players.

“If the Sevilla coach wasn’t Lopetegui, it wouldn’t have been so easy for Tecatito and Martial to be here. The willingness of the players has helped a lot in that sense.”
